Frequently Asked Questions
Extremely important!
The main function of an air filter is to trap airborne particles and keep them out of your heating/cooling system. Clean air is essential to the performance, efficiency, and longevity of your unit!
Air filters should typically be replaced every 1-3 months. If you live in an area with a high pollen count or if you have pets, air filters will become clogged quickly. Although HVAC system maintenance should typically be performed by a trained professional, air filters can be easily changed by homeowners!
Unfortunately, not every unit has the same size air filter. To find your filter size, refer to your old filter. Air filter sizes are in a format that look something like “16x20x1”.
MERV ratings measure how effectively a filter removes particles from the air. The higher the MERV rating the more particles the filter will catch. However, the higher the MERV rating the more restrictive the filter is to airflow. This restriction of airflow can eventually cause premature system failure.
MERV ratings can sometimes be found on your old filter. If you are unable to find your MERV rating, a MERV 8 filter is most commonly used.
